Everyone is selling out
Times are tough. People are selling out when they can.
One example that’s been sitting in my brain is Enya Umanzor’s money grabs with H&M
I love Enya. But I’m increasingly interested in the contradiction between influencers who publicly speak against certain corporate practices and then partner with the exact companies they criticize.
H&M is deeply invested in fast fashion and fashion technology, while Enya has been outspoken online about AI and fast fashion. So what happens when those things collide? Where do we actually draw the line?
And it is not something the brand is trying to hide, blasting the news on their own website.
And is the line somewhere before Shein, or after?
I’m definitely not the only person thinking about this. After some casual Reddit research, I found plenty of people having the same conversation.
None of this discredits Enya’s creative abilities. If anything, I think that’s what makes it more complicated. She has a strong visual voice, and I like what she makes. But these kinds of partnerships can weaken the authority of the opinions she shares publicly.
She also designed a very nice wedge with Reformation, another brand that has had its own controversies around sustainability and fast-fashion practices, which comes in beautiful shades.
But I also think the silhouette is something I could probably thrift.
And, honestly, when I first started writing this, I had the realization that I did not look cloe enough to the marketing and through the collaboration was with Realisation Par instead of Reformation, which would have been sooo much cooler.
Now my question is when you get th bag from H&M will you move on?????cmonnnnn
